Québec is increasing its proof of funds requirements for international students starting January 1, 2026. This change means you'll need to show you can cover higher living expenses before you study in Québec.

What You Need to Know

You must provide more financial proof when applying for your studies in Québec. For a single adult student, the minimum amount jumps from $15,508 to $24,617. Minors now need to show $24,617, more than triple the old requirement. If you plan to bring family, you'll need to show even more. Two adults must prove $34,814, and a family with two adults and two minors needs $49,234. Tuition and travel costs are separate—factor these into your plans.

Why Is Québec Making This Change?

Québec is updating its policy to reflect rising costs and to make sure international students are prepared for the real cost of living. The increase also matches national trends, as Canada has raised proof of funds minimums in other provinces recently. Québec wants students to be ready and able to focus on their studies.

When Will This Affect You?

These new numbers apply when you apply for your Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), for your federal study permit, and for renewal requests. If you're planning to study in Québec, start preparing your financial documentation early to avoid delays.

What Documents Can You Use?

You can show you have enough funds with:

  • Canadian or Québec bank statements
  • Proof of international fund transfers
  • Confirmation of scholarships or bursaries
  • Recent pay slips or tax returns
  • Official letters from your bank showing balances

If your country limits currency transfers, you'll need extra documentation showing you can send your funds to Québec.
