Disclaimer: This article is for informational purposes only. The recognition status of any non-Jordanian university is determined solely by Jordan's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHE), not by ApplyBoard. Always verify a specific institution and campus directly through MOHE's Directorate of Recognition and Equivalency of Certificates portal before accepting an offer or paying a deposit.
Why Jordanian Degree Recognition Matters
Studying abroad is a major investment of time and money, and for Jordanian students, that investment only pays off if the degree is usable back home. Jordan's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHE) maintains an official list of non-Jordanian universities it recognizes for the purpose of certificate equivalency, or Mu'adalah (معادلة الشهادات). Without this recognition, a foreign degree may not be accepted for public-sector employment, licensing in regulated professions (medicine, engineering, law, pharmacy), further graduate study in Jordan, or government-linked benefits.
This is why the university and specific campus you choose, not just the country, matters. A degree from an unrecognized branch campus, satellite location, or unaccredited program can leave you unable to have your qualification equated once you're back in Jordan, even if the parent university is famous.
How MOHE Recognition and Equivalency Work
MOHE's Directorate of Recognition and Equivalency of Certificates is the government body responsible for reviewing foreign institutions and certificates. A few points matter for anyone planning to study abroad:
- Country-by-country and university-by-university review: MOHE publishes a searchable list of recognized non-Jordanian universities, organized by country. Recognition is granted to a specific institution, not to a country as a whole.
- Study mode matters: MOHE maintains a separate list for distance/online education and requirements differ from on-campus study.
- Equivalency happens after graduation: once you complete your degree, you submit your certificate and transcripts to MOHE for formal equivalency so it is recognized within Jordan's education and employment systems. Required documents are listed on the MOHE website.
- Lists change over time: a university's status can be updated, so it's worth re-checking close to your application date rather than relying on a list you saw months earlier.
Tip! Before you finalize any application, search the exact university name on MOHE's portal.
