What Is a Success Chance Score?
When you search for programs on ApplyBoard, every program card displays a personalized Success Chance rating alongside a visual progress bar. This rating gives you an instant snapshot of how strong your application would be.
Your Success Chance will fall into one of five distinct categories:
- Perfect Match: Excellent alignment across all entry criteria.
- Great Fit: Strong alignment with very high admission probability.
- Good Fit: Solid alignment; a great choice for a balanced list.
- Challenging Match: Higher competition or missing minor ideal criteria, but still worth considering.
- Not Eligible: Your profile currently does not meet key admission requirements.
Your success chance is based on:
- Your personal profile
- Your academic background
- Real data from past students who applied to that program
The higher your score, the better your chances of getting in.

How to Use Your Success Score When Searching
Here is a simple, step-by-step strategy to construct a winning application list using your ratings:
Step 1 — Target your top tiers first: Focus the core of your list on programs where your Success Chance is Perfect Match or Great Fit. These offer your highest likelihood of acceptance.
Step 2 — Add balanced options: Include a few Good Fit or Challenging Match options. A lower tier doesn't mean you won't get accepted—it often just indicates higher competition or a closer match on specific requirements.
Step 3 — Check the details. Two programs might both be labeled a Great Fit, but one might offer added perks like Fast Acceptance, PGWP Eligibility, Financial Aid Available, or Application Fee Waivers. Look for these key tags on the card to make your final choice.
Step 4 — Keep your profile updated. Your ratings update dynamically as your profile evolves. Did you re-take an English test or upload updated transcripts? Refresh your search to see your updated Success Chance across all programs.
A Quick Example
Imagine you’re looking at two Master's programs in Canada, and both display a Great Fit rating. To decide between them, look at the additional features highlighted on the cards:
- Program A: Great Fit ✅ · PGWP Eligibility ✅ · High Job Availability ✅
- Program B: Great Fit ✅ · PGWP Eligibility ❌ · High Job Availability ❌
While both programs offer a high chance of admission, Program A offers better post-graduation opportunities, lower upfront costs, and a faster decision time.
